We had a guest speaker during our last class, We were given homework which was to research about a certain section, I chose Section 2: Plants as my chose of research for San Elijo Lagoon because I really enjoy taking photos of different plants and I love to learn about the names of plants I have never seen before. As well as the origin.
There are 15 species of native plants in San Elijo Lagoon. Black Sage also known as Salvia Mellifea which is native to California as well as Baja California, Mexico also known as T.J. / Tijuana. Bicolor Everlasting are usually only in wildlife areas, Not really for ecological restoration. California Buckwheat also knwn as Eriogonum fasciculatum which is a species of wild buckwheat. Bush Mallow commonly known for their open branching perennial. Coastal Sagebrush also known as soft chaparral are drought deciduous shrubs that are adapted to Mediterranean weather. California Encelia also known as the Bush Sunflower, California Brittlebush, and Coast Sunflower. This species is a part of the Daisy Family. Coyote Brush also known as Baccharis Pilularis, Chaparral Broom, and Bush Baccharis. This species of plants is also a part of the Daisy Family and is native to California, Oregon, Washington, and Baja California. Deerweed also known Acmispon Glaber, deervetch, and California Broom. This plant only lives 7-20 years in life spam. During Spring through Summer this plant will have yellow flowers all over. This plant is a part of the Pea Family. Golden Bush also known as Ericameria, Rabbit Brush, and Turpentine Bush is a North American shrub which means you can only find it in North America as well as find them growing there. Laurel Sumac also known as Malosma Laurina, and lentisco. These plants are found only in Southern California and Baja California. Pygmy Stonecrop also known as Crassula connate, and Sand Pygmyweed is a succulent plant. Mostly grows in rocky grounds in patches. Ocean Locoweed most Locoweed plants produce Swainsonine, a phytotoxin harmful to livestock. Phytotoxin a substance that is poisonous to plants. Sun Cup which is the name given to plants of the genus Camissonia. The origin of the name is Latin which was in honor for a naturalist who went around and explored California and its inhabitants. Telegraph Weed also known as Heterotheca Grandiflora, and Silk grass goldenaster. It is native to California, Nevada, Utah, Arizona, and Baja California. Twiggy Wreath Plant also known Staphanomeria Virgata, and Rod wirelettuce. This plant is a part of the sunflower family. Everything I just stated is researched I found of certain plants. I am not really good at research but I am happy with what I found.
